SSAB is searching for the next Head of Internal Communications, a key position in the newly formed Group Communications team.
In this role, you lead the global internal communications work for the company in close collaboration with colleagues in the Communications team; external communication, internal communication, IR, brand & marketing, governmental relations and customer & employee journeys (digital platforms), as well as key internal stakeholders in Divisions and on sites. The head of Internal Communications will play a crucial role in securing trustworthy and transparent communications to employees and leaders.
SSAB, listed at Nasdaq Stockholm and OMX Helsinki, is a global steel producer with production in the Nordics and in the US. The company is going through a transformation into low emission steel production, impacting all parts of the company.

About the role as Head of Internal Communications
The role of Head of Internal Communications is primarily an individual contributor role where you work closely with the site communicators, HR and other functions, as well as the CEO and executive team members. You will have the overall responsibility for planning and executing the company’s internal communications strategy and activities, contributing to building employee engagement and the successful execution of the ongoing transformation of the company.
The Head of Internal Communication leads and coordinates (with dotted line) the site communications managers to align messaging and support knowledge and best practice sharing. The Head of Internal Communications is also responsible for planning and executing pro-active internal communications programs focusing on important topics such as strategy, safety, culture and change.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Lead, develop and implement internal communications strategies
- Follow up and evaluate activities and set relevant KPI’s
- Closely collaborate with colleagues in an integrated communications model
- Create and execute on a proactive CEO and leadership internal communications agenda
- Drive group wide leadership communication initiatives, including the annual Top Management Meeting and All Management Meetings on the main sites as well as secure relevant content flow on the Manager’s Portal
- Drive the network of local site communicators to enable them to collaborate and share best practice – as well as to secure alignment of messaging across the organization
- Responsibility for global internal news flow on the intranet and an active contributor to planning and production of News desk content
- Budget responsibility for group internal communications
Your Profile:
We are looking for a strategic and hands-on communications professional with a strong background in internal and leadership communication in international environments. You thrive in a collaborative setting, you are confident working with senior leaders, and you have a passion for creating clarity and engagement through communication. You combine a structured mindset with creativity and the ability to drive alignment and change across complex organizations.
To succeed in this role, you bring:
- +7 years of experience of internal and leadership communications in an international company
- Ability to coach and support senior executives
- Proven leadership experience, ability to build and lead engaged teams – including project teams, virtual teams and dotted line reporting teams
- Good business understanding – ability to translate business strategy to communications
- Experience of working both strategically and operationally
- Self-motivated and structured
- Excellent language skills in Swedish and English – written and verbal. Finnish language skills is an extra plus.
- Relevant university degree – likely in business administration, communications or journalism

This full-time, permanent position is based at SSAB's HQ in Stockholm. Preferably with a start date at the end of summer, or as soon as possible, with respect to notice periods.
